(By River)The Ontario government is allocating $9.6 million to launch applications for the Wetlands Conservation Partner Program, which backs projects aimed at restoring and enhancing wetlands across the province.

Environment, Conservation and Parks Minister Todd McCarthy emphasized the practical value of wetlands as “natural infrastructure”:
“Wetlands make communities more resilient. They act as natural infrastructurey that protects our homes and businesses against drought and flooding, cleans our water and creates habitat for a variety of wildlife.”
The funding supports a wide range of projects—targeting Great Lakes coastal wetlands, ecoregions under long-term loss, and urban sites used for municipal stormwater management . Eligible applicants include conservation organizations, municipalities, conservation authorities, and Indigenous communities—applications are due by October 8.
Since the program’s inception around 2020, approximately 590 projects have restored or enhanced about 9,900 acres of wetlands. The new investment brings the total provincial contribution to nearly $41 million over two years.
